1. Client-Derived Item Budget Costs

Every item score on wow4everbis is calculated directly from the game client's own data tables (ItemSparse and RandPropPoints).

In World of Warcraft: Forever, equippable items allocate a percentage of an item-level stat budget (StatPercentEditor) to specific attributes. Analyzing item budget points across equippable equipment yields:

Stat Budget Cost = median((budget × share / 10000) / stat_value)

The client gives every stat point the same item-budget cost of 1.0, so each counted stat point of the spec's list counts once. Readers who want different stat priorities can change any weight in the Gear Planner.

2. Spec Stat Groups & Scoring

Each specialization has an assigned group of relevant combat attributes (e.g. melee_str for Fury and Arms Warrior; caster_dps for Mages and Warlocks; healer for Holy Priests and Paladins; tank for Protection Warriors). School-specific spell damage (Fire, Frost, Shadow, Nature, Arcane, Holy) is counted only for specs that cast those schools.

An item's score equals the sum of its relevant stats multiplied by their budget weights. Stats outside the spec's group are weighted at zero.

3. Weapons: No Invented Conversion Rates

To avoid inventing arbitrary conversion formulas between weapon DPS and primary stats, weapons for melee specializations (Main Hand, Off Hand, Two-Hand) and physical ranged weapons (Hunter ranged slot) are ranked strictly by:

  1. Weapon DPS first (higher base weapon damage wins).
  2. Stat score second (breaking ties between weapons with identical or near-identical damage).

For caster and healer weapons (staves, wands, caster daggers, and off-hand frills), weapon swing damage does not contribute to spellcasting, so these slots are ranked entirely by their stat score.

4. Level Bands, Factions & PvP

Lists are calculated across six distinct progression bands:

  • 20–29, 30–39, 40–49, 50–59: Leveling bands. An item counts if its required level is within the band.
  • 60 Pre-raid: Level 60 equipment obtainable outside of 40-player and 20-player raid instances (dungeons, reputation, and crafting).
  • 60 Raids: Includes drops from raid encounters (raids open December 9).

Faction & Professions: Quest rewards, reputation gear, and faction-exclusive items are restricted to the selected faction. Items requiring specific trade skills (such as Engineering goggles or Blacksmithing armor) are prioritized when the reader selects those professions.

PvE vs PvP: In PvE mode, equipment requiring PvP honor ranks (e.g. Knight-Captain, Legionnaire, High Warlord, Grand Marshal) is excluded so the list reflects accessible PvE content. Toggling PvP mode includes PvP rank rewards.

5. Data Sources & Engine Rules

All item stats, weapon speeds, armor values, and proficiencies are read directly from client data for client build 1.60.1.70685. Sources are drop, quest and vendor facts from Wowhead's tooltip data, read on 2026-10-29. If an item source is not in the database, it is displayed as Source not known yet.

Three specific rules were added to resolve client data edge cases:

  1. Per-band item-level caps: Leveling bands enforce maximum item levels (20–29: 35, 30–39: 45, 40–49: 55, 50–59: 65, 60 Pre-raid: 65) because items with no required level in the client would otherwise appear in lower brackets.
  2. PvP rank title identification: 773 PvP items are identified using PvP rank titles (such as Grand Marshal's, High Warlord's, Knight-Captain's, and Legionnaire's) alongside client rank requirements (RequiredPVPRank > 0 and RequiredPVPMedal > 0), ensuring weapons with RequiredPVPRank = 0 in DB2 are properly excluded from PvE mode.
  3. Pre-raid item-level cap for items with no known source: In 60 Pre-raid, items above ilvl 65 with no known drop source are excluded so raid-tier items do not leak into pre-raid before raids unlock.

Readers who wish to customize weights, test alternative stat priorities, or plan individual equipment slots can open any BiS list directly in our Gear Planner.
